The Boys and Girls Club of Carbondale, in partnership with the City of Carbondale Police Department, is currently conducting a three week summer program at the Boys and Girls Club for local 4th through 8th grade children. The program is a part of the Police Department's Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T.) program. Carbondale Police Department G.R.E.A.T. officers are providing instruction on gang resistance to the participants. The curriculum focuses on helping young people avoid gang membership, prevent violence and criminal activity, as well as to develop a positive relationship with law enforcement. This is the third year the Police Department has partnered with the Boys and Girls Club to provide G.R.E.A.T. program activities and instruction.
